The City League has added one more athlete to its upcoming 36th induction class on Nov. 6.
Daniel “D.J.” Eckhart, Start Class of 1995, starred in baseball for four seasons with the Spartans, earning first team All-City honors three times. He was also named first team All-City in football as a senior, and lettered three times in basketball before moving on to an outstanding baseball career at Miami (Ohio) University, where he was twice chosen the team’s most valuable player.
Eckhart will join nine other athletes, two coaches, and one honored team, previously announced, at the induction.
The hall of fame dinner and ceremony will be held at the Premier Banquet Center on Heatherdowns Boulevard in Toledo. Single tickets are $45, with tables of 10 available for $450. Those interested in attending can contact Lynn Moran at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Some of northwest Ohio’s top Division I singles players and doubles teams will attempt to qualify for the girls state tennis tournament beginning Thursday at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts, where brackets will conclude with semifinal matches.
Those who advance to the finals will compete in championship and consolation matches on Saturday at Port Clinton High School. Only the top two single splayers and doubles teams advance to state.
Division II district play began Wednesday at BGSU, and will conclude on Saturday at Port Clinton. In the D-II tourney, the top four singles players and doubles team will qualify for state competition.
The state tournament in both divisions is set for Oct. 20-21 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
