Halftime adjustments by BG coaches pan out versus Akron

BOWLING GREEN — Some fans of the Bowling Green State University football team are never going to like coach Mike Jinks and his staff.

That is certainly their prerogative — although I would have to imagine it makes rooting for the team a little less fun, doesn’t it? The bigger problem, though, comes when that dislike clouds a fan’s judgment.

For example, in Saturday’s game against Akron I thought the BG coaching staff made some solid halftime adjustments. On defense the Falcons forced a fumble on Akron’s first play of the half, then forced a three-and-out on the second drive. Meanwhile the offense took advantage of a short field to score a touchdown before driving 77 yards for the go-ahead field goal.

Based on that evidence, it’s hard to argue against the idea that the Falcons made some good halftime adjustments, isn’t it?

Well, I received an email Sunday from a follower who said that was nonsense. The Falcons NEVER make adjustments at halftime, this writer said, and from there it was simply a cry for Jinks to be fired ASAP.

I have to shake my head at this. There’s plenty of evidence of the Falcons’ struggles without having to downplay something BG has done right, isn’t there?
