Northview stuns Springfield with seconds remaining

Northview stunned Springfield with a signature road win as the Wildcats mounted a remarkable comeback cemented with a last-second touchdown in a wild Friday night Northern Lakes League showdown.

Northview senior quarterback Brandon Leach connected with senior wide receiver Jarrett Batanian on the game-clinching, nine-yard touchdown pass with four seconds left to put an exclamation point on a 24-21 shocker. The Wildcats rallied with 24 unanswered points and had to drive the length of the field with just over two minutes to complete the upset. FULL STORYPHOTO GALLERY ■ VIDEO

Central Catholic pulls away from Clay

Central Catholic received a challenge for almost three quarters Friday from host Clay before pulling away for a 41-10 Three Rivers Athletic Conference football victory.

Fighting Irish receiver Jase Bowen scored on a 63-yard run and a 74-yard pass from Troy Durden in the first half as Central (5-0, 2-0 TRAC), Ohio’s second-ranked Division III team, took a 21-10 lead to halftime.

Central used a 74-yard drive capped by Durden’s 5-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter, Jonzell Norrils closed a 64-yard march with a 3-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes, 41 seconds left in the game, and A’siah Smith tacked on a 12-yard scoring run on the game’s final play. FULL STORYPHOTO GALLERY ■ VIDEO

Late heroics give Otsego win over Genoa

TONTOGANY — Every Thursday, junior quarterback Mitchell Downs and the Otsego Knights practice the 2-minute offense. In Friday’s 35-32 Northern Buckeye Conference home victory against undefeated Genoa, the rehearsal paid off.

Facing a 32-27 deficit with under two minutes to play, Downs led the game-winning touchdown drive, which was capped by his 8-yard score. This was just a few moments after Genoa’s Noah Edwards — who leads the NBC in total touchdowns — plunged into the end zone on what was the go-ahead score.

But Downs, who finished the game with four rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown, brought the Knights (4-1, 2-0 NBC) back up the field and scored on his own. At one point, he completed a 7-yard pass to extend the drive on fourth down and later converted a two-point conversion. FULL STORY
