Falcons coach still has 4 years on contract

BOWLING GREEN – Bowling Green State University football coach Mike Jinks told Falcons fans he understood their frustration following BG’s loss to an FCS school Saturday.

Jinks knows there is unhappiness. He knows there is anger. He knows there is a faction of the fan base that wants him fired – immediately.

But what that group that wants Jinks out immediately must understand is this: That is not happening.

Why? Jinks is paid an annual salary just a click north of $400,000, and he under contract through the 2020 season. In other words, it would take roughly $2 million dollars to fire the coach immediately.

If someone has that money and is willing to write a check, then it might happen. But realistically, that’s not going to happen.

Don’t believe me? Then consider what happened with former men’s basketball coach Louis Orr, who was allowed to complete his contract instead of being fired when his program hit a rut late in his tenure.

As a result, angry fans would be better served channeling that frustration towards helping Jinks, his staff and the program improve rather than hoping for a restart that will not be happening.
