The Toledo Walleye added another piece to the 2017-18 roster Thursday with the signing of defenseman Ryan Obuchowski.
The second-year pro had two goals and 14 assists for the since-renamed Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL last season. Obuchowski (pronounced AH-boo-chow-ski) is a native of West Bloomfield, Mich.
Obuchowski, 25, also picked up 31 penalty minutes in 69 games for Missouri.
“Ryan is a smart, solid defenseman,” Walleye coach Dan Watson said. “He is very good in the defensive zone and moves pucks well to jump start an offensive attack.”
Obuchowski attended Yale University from 2012-16, appearing in 134 games. He produced 16 goals and 52 points along with 60 penalty minutes.
The Walleye open the regular season on the road Oct. 13 at the Quad City Mallards.
