Buckeyes should be in the mix for another national title

The countdown of our vote in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason college football poll continues with ...

No. 2 Ohio State

Coach: Urban Meyer (sixth year, 61-6; 165-29 at Bowling Green State University, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State)

Last year: 11-2, 8-1 Big Ten

Returning starters: 8 offense, 7 defense

The skinny: I would just as soon cash out my 401k and light it on fire than bet against an angry Urban Meyer team. These Buckeyes about have it all, from the best returning roster in the Big Ten to the best incoming class to, yes, the best bulletin-board kindling. With an entire offseason to wear the scarlet letter of a 31-0 loss to Clemson in last year’s playoff semifinal — the biggest goose egg in school history and the first of Meyer’s career — a veteran Ohio State team counting on a new lease on offensive life is at least an eight-point favorite in every game this season. As long as the offensive line develops, the Buckeyes will be thick in the mix for their second national title in four years.
