With our stab-in-the-dark vote in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll due next week, it is time to get cracking.

We’ll count down our top 10 teams in the coming days, but first, here’s the best of the rest:

11. LSU

12. Auburn

13. Georgia

14. Oklahoma State

15. Stanford

16. Louisville

17. Miami

18. Texas

19. Florida

20. South Florida

21. Kansas State

22. Washington State

23. Pittsburgh

24. West Virginia

25. Tennessee

A quick note: Remember, the highest-ranked Group of Five team earns an automatic bid to a marquee New Year’s Six bowl game. Can the Mid-American Conference crash the party for the second straight season?

We say Charlie Strong’s South Florida Bulls of the American Athletic Conference are the slight favorite. But a year after Western Michigan earned the nod, don’t count out the local guys. The lack of a clear frontrunner in the non-power leagues bodes well for a University of Toledo team from which big things are expected. The Rockets can make some serious Group of Five noise — not to mention crack this poll — with an upset at Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 23.
