CANTON, Ohio — The University of Toledo football team is the overwhelming favorite to win the Mid-American Conference football title in a media poll released today.
The Rockets received all but two of the first-place votes to win the West Division in the poll of league media, and UT received all but three of the 24 votes to win the MAC Championship Game.
Bowling Green State University was picked to finish third in the East Division, although the Falcons also received one first-place vote and one vote to win the title game.
Ohio received 11 first-place votes and 131 points overall to narrowly win the East Division nod over Miami, which got 12 firsts and 129 points. Following BG was Akron, Buffalo, and Kent State.
Toledo took 142 votes to win the West, followed by defending champ Western Michigan with 107 points, Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, and Ball State. WMU and NIU each received one first-place vote.
The only other teams to receive MAC title votes besides Toledo (21) and Bowling Green (one) were Western Michigan and Miami with one each.
