PHILADELPHIA — University of Toledo senior tight end Michael Roberts has been selected by the Detroit Lions with the 127th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Roberts, a fourth-round selection, had a breakout senior season for UT in which he caught a school-record 16 touchdown passes. Roberts finished the season with 45 catches for 533 yards and was named a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and was first-team All-MAC.
In addition, University of Toledo offensive tackle and former Whitmer standout Storm Norton has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Lions.
Norton was a first-team All-MAC performer in 2015 and 2016 and last season anchored the offensive line for the conference’s top total offense.
UT defensive tackle Treyvon Hester was selected by the Oakland Raiders with the 244th pick in the seventh round.
Hester recorded 39 tackles his senior season, including eight tackles for loss. He also recorded five sacks and was named second-team All-MAC. Hester, who missed the end of last season with a shoulder injury, was unable to work out at the NFL Combine.
Hester was the third UT player taken in this year’s draft after running back Kareem Hunt was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 86th overall pick (third round).
