Austin Rotroff led Wauseon with 24 points as the Indians defeated Elida 54-45 in the Division II regional final at Savage Arena.
Elida made a furious comeback in the final three minutes of regulation erasing an eight-point deficit. Baylen Stinson scored seven points during the run, and Calan Henderson added a 3-pointer giving Elida a 40-38 lead with a minute left.
Wauseon's Brooks Gype makes two free throws with 22.4 seconds left to force overtime.
Rotroff scored a quick five points on Wauseon's first two overtime possessions giving the Indians a lead they didn't relinquish. Gype helped Wauseon finish the game off with seven free-throws finishing off overtime.
Rotroff scored 12 first half points, 10 coming in the paint. The Indians defense also did not give Elida many clean looks on way to a 19-10 halftime advantage.
Henderson and Daniel Unruh made 3-pointers for Elida in the first half for most of the Bulldogs offensive output.
Wauseon shared the ball well in the first half with eight assists on its eight baskets. Rotroff scored 10 points from inside the paint, including eight of the first 10 Wauseon points.
Elida came out with a more aggressive offense attacking the rim in the third quarter to cut into the Wauseon lead 23-18. Levi Seiler came off the bench to score two consecutive baskets for Wauseon followed by a layup from Gype to give Wauseon a 30-20 lead going into the fourth.
