WASHINGTON — The Toledo men's basketball season came to an end in a 73-69 loss Wednesday at George Washington in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.

Tyler Cavanaugh scored 29 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the 3-point line to pace the George Washington (20-14) attack.

Sophomore Jaelan Sanford led the way for Toledo (17-17) with 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting. Toledo was without its leading scorer in senior Jonathan Williams. Steve Taylor, Jr., came off the bench and provided a lift with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Rockets.

After trailing by 10 midway through the second half, the Rockets made a comeback to pull within two points with 15 seconds left. Toledo couldn't complete the comeback as George Washington made its foul shots down the stretch.

George Washington advances to face the winner of the Stony Brook-University of Illinois at Chicago matchup.
