H.S. roundup: Panthers prevail against Findlay

WHITMER 64, FINDLAY 52

After a frantic first quarter that saw Whitmer and Findlay combine for 42 points, the Panthers won a Three Rivers Athletic Conference boys basketball showdown on Friday night.

Whitmer (16-6, 10-4 TRAC) had four players finish in doubles figures scoring, with Leon Hughes’ 14 points leading the way. Areon Evans scored 13 points, Derrick Rayford had 11, and Avion Franklin had 10.

Drew Hapner led Findlay (14-8, 8-6 TRAC) with 16 points. Kyle and Ryan Nunn each finished with 14 points.

ST. JOHN’S 65, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 52

St. John’s used 20 free throws to win. Vince Williams, Jr., and Tycen Anderson led the Titans (20-2, 13-1 TRAC) with 17 points apiece. Thirteen of Williams’ points came at the free throw line.

D.J. Triplett scored a game-high 23 points for Central Catholic (6-16, 4-10 TRAC). Victor Copeland had 13.

ST. FRANCIS 79, FREMONT ROSS 44

The Knights (17-4, 10-4 TRAC) used their balance to win at home. Kenny Coleman-Graham scored 22 points, Marcus Lane had 12, and John Burnham and Jack Harris both had 10.

Maliek Johnson led the Little Giants (6-16, 2-12) with 13 points. Trevion Campbell added 10.

NORTHVIEW 67, BOWLING GREEN 51

BOWLING GREEN — Logan Jessing and Colton Snow combined for 33 points as Northview (15-7, 9-5) earned a Northern Lakes League road victory. Jessing scored 17 and Snow had 16.

Bowling Green (3-19, 2-12) was led by Isaac Elsasser, who scored 22.

SPRINGFIELD 64, MAUMEE 50

Terrel Bryant scored 26 points to lead Springfield (3-19, 2-12 NLL) thanks to a big second half. Cam Arce added 12 for Springfield.

James Braithwaite scored 15 and Ben Pacer pitched in with 12 points to lead Maumee (6-16, 4-10).

EASTWOOD 57, OTSEGO 39

TONTOGANY — Eastwood clinched a share of the Northern Buckeye Conference with Genoa with a road win. Cade Boos scored 20 points and Ryan Reiter added 10 for the Eagles (18-4, 12-2 NBC).

Otsego (11-11, 6-8) was led by Mitchell Downs and Parker Vollmar, who both scored seven points.

GENOA 61, LAKE 38

GENOA — The Comets cut down the net after winning a share of their first NBC title. Genoa’s last league title was in 2008 while in the Suburban Lakes League.

Sam Sutter made three second-quarter 3-pointers to help Genoa (19-3, 12-2 NBC) pull away. He finished with 19. Jake Plantz led all scorers with 23.

Lake (6-17, 3-12) was led by Jordan Bekier’s 12 points, and Zack Ellison added 11.

ELMWOOD 69, FOSTORIA 49

BLOOMDALE — Tayte Lentz scored 25 points and Nate Uzelac added 12 points as the Royals (14-8, 8-6) won at home.

Dae’mier Johnson finished with 13 to lead Fostoria (5-17, 2-12).

MAUMEE VALLEY 65, DANBURY 61

Jaiden Woodley scored 27 points as the Hawks (15-7, 9-5 Toledo Area Athletic Conference) won at home. Caleb Kynard added 10.

Brad Pruitt led the Lakers (7-15, 3-11) with 15 points. Grady Mark added 13 points and Saylor Evans 11.

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 53, ANTWERP 47

ANTWERP — Delano Smith scored 18 points, and Joe Ochoa 5and Joel Gleason both added 13 as the Eagles (18-4) won on the road.

Matt Jones and Cole Seslar both scored 13 for Antwerp (8-14).

Dylan Peters added 11.

GIBSONBURG 70, EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN 38

GIBSONBURG — Nick Kille scored 17 points, and Alex Richards and Fabian Cortez both added 12 for the host Golden Bears (10-12, 7-7 TAAC).

Gunnar Parmelee finished with 15 to lead the Warriors (3-17, 2-11).

CARDINAL STRITCH 76, NORTHWOOD 33

Cardinal Stritch took an early lead and did not let up.

The Cardinals (18-4, 11-3 TAAC) were paced Joey Holifield’s 16 points. Jordan Burton added 15 and Alex Adams and Nick Staler each had 10.

Evan LaPlante finished with 13 points for Northwood (1-21, 1-13).

SWANTON 62, DELTA 52

SWANTON — The Bulldogs led by 10 in the first and never looked back at home. Gunnar Oakes scored 19 points and Dwyane Goings added 10 for Swanton (10-12, 4-3 Northwest Ohio Athletic League).

Delta (1-20, 0-7) was led by Brady Wymer’s 15 points.

WAUSEON 60, PATRICK HENRY 39

WAUSEON — Carter Bzovi scored 10 first-quarter points helping Wauseon (21-1, 7-0 NWOAL) establish a lead that it kept. Bzovi finished with 21 points and was aided by Autin Rotroff’s 15.

Patrick Henry (7-14, 1-6) was led by Alex VanDeBussche, who scored 16.

HILLTOP 39, FAYETTE 30

FAYETTE — Hilltop outscored Fayette by eight in the fourth to win on the road.

Hilltop held the ball for one posssession for over five minutes in the third quarter with a one-point lead. Ryan Brooker scored 13, Quinn Smith scored 12, and Tim Maneval scored 11 for Hilltop (23-1).

Fayette (7-15) was led by Tyler Keefer who scored nine.

MARGARETTA 72, PORT CLINTON 46

PORT CLINTON — Ten different Margaretta players scored in the road win.

Bailey Kimberlin scored 18, Dylan Morris scored 14, and Angelo Frias pitched in with 12 to lead Margaretta (12-10).

Port Clinton (4-18) was paced by Dean Colston, who scored 11.

LIMA TEMPLE CHRISTIAN 55, MONCLOVA CHRISTIAN 52

Monclova Christian’s rally came up short. Zach Bergquist, who scored his 1,000th career point in the game, led the Thunder (12-7) with 20 points. Luke Metzger had 15 points and Nick Kaufman 11.

Noah Howell scored a game-high 21 points for Lima Temple Christian (11-11). Brody Bowman added 18.

WHITEFORD 50, SUMMERFIELD 47

PETERSBURG, Mich. — Jarred Fink scored 16, and Hunter Lake and Thomas Eitniear both added 12 for the visiting Bobcats (16-3).

Mike Pauker and Trent Schankin both scored 13 for the Bulldogs (9-9). Nate Cunningham added 12.

BEDFORD 50, ANN ANN SKYLINE 22

TEMPERANCE — The Kicking Mules took an early lead and never let go to win. Madisyn King led Bedford (10-10) with 19 points.

Janee Faulkner led Skyline (4-16) with eight points.

Bedford will play in the Michigan state tournament on Monday against Ypsilanti (18-2).
