The Tigers open spring training Tuesday, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2017 Mud Hens.
Mike Zagurski, left-handed pitcher
■ History: The Tigers signed Zagurski to a minor-league contract this past week. He spent the past two seasons in Japan, posting a 2.40 ERA in 19 relief appearances for Hiroshima in 2015 and a 3-1 mark with a 4.96 ERA in 32 games for Yokohama last year. Originally drafted by Philadelphia in 2005, Zagurski has pitched in the majors with the Phillies (2007, 2010-11), Arizona (2012), Pittsburgh (2013) and the Yankees (2013). His entire major-league career Zagurski has been as a situational lefty, meaning he never has started and has just 75⅓ big-league innings spread during 89 appearances.

■ Future: Zagurski always has had success getting left-handers out, and the 34-year-old will compete for a job in the Tigers bullpen. Based on his experience with eight different Triple-A teams, including six in the International League, Zaguarski would fill an important role should he decide to pitch for the Mud Hens.
