But there is more than just baseball to celebrate this season in downtown Toledo as Hensville — a new entertainment district along a stretch of North St. Clair Street from Washington to Monroe streets, adjacent to the ballpark — makes it’s official debut.

Today is the dawn of a new season for the Toledo Mud Hens, whose roster features a number of unfamiliar faces. But a couple of players fans will recognize from last year hope to improve upon their efforts in 2016.

During last year’s winter meetings, baseball commissioner Rob Manfred requested that professional baseball teams take steps to protect fans from balls and bats flying into the stands. The Mud Hens were among the teams that listened to Manfred’s mandate.

The Holy Toledo burger — the Mud Hens’ new slugger created by executive chef Dusten Brown — is definitely the heavy hitter among the new menu items at Fifth Third Field. A full pound of ground beef: not just two all-beef patties, but double that for a grand slam’s worth.
