My understanding is that the emergency room at Wood County Hospital was jammed Friday night.
The No. 1 malady?
Injured ankles from people jumping off the BG bandwagon after the Falcons were thrashed at Western Kentucky.
Well, alert the authorities: Wednesday’s announcement that a hip injury has sidelined quarterback Matt Johnson is going to cause a similar rush. Anyone who stubbornly stayed on the bandwagon after the season-opening loss now realizes they may be tightly gripping a deck chair from the Titanic.
It’s hard to argue, because it’s hard to ignore the evidence from Friday and from Johnson’s injury, which seems to be a 1-2 punch to the Falcons hopes for a record-setting season.
After all, the 702 yards of total offense allowed by the BG defense Friday speaks for itself. And #FalconFast, which translated to #FalconsFallFlatOnFace in the early going against the Hilltoppers, will be further hamstrung by the loss of the veteran QB.
Can we wait more than one game before calling for a coach to be fired? Can we see a little more evidence than four quarters before calling the season a disaster? A win over VMI will prove little, granted. But one loss in a 12-game season was a small sampling, too.
