Evergreen Football 2014

08/27/2014, 12:00am EDT
By BLADE STAFF

Steve Siefker

Coach: Paul Amstutz, second year

Last season: 0-10, 0-8 NWOAL

Returning letter winners: 15

Returning starters: Offense 7, defense 7

Schemes: Wing-T/3-4

Top players: Seniors Kyle Brighton, 6-1, 165, WR-DB; Marty Nichols, 6-2, 240, OL-D; Spencer Carter, 6-1, 200, WR-LB; Jake Clay, 6-1, 200, FB-LB. Juniors Tyler Coopshaw, 6-3, 240, OL-DL; Noah Eisel, 6-0, 175; OL-DL; Dominick Etue, 5-10, 155, QB-DB; Mason Kasefang, 5-6, 150, FB-LB; Ian Seabolt, 6-0, 280, OL-DL.

Outlook: The Vikings look to change things in Amstutz’s second season.

“It was not fun last year,” Amstutz said of the experience. “The upside is we have a lot coming back.”

Brighton, an all-league second team defensive back and wide receiver, dons the most experience.

Etue saw time as quarterback last year and will be called on to lead the offense. Nichols, Carter, and Clay are also seniors who are expected to provided leadership.

“Depth is going to be our problem,” Amstutz said. “We’re one or two injuries away from not being able to compete.”

Newcomers such as juniors Levi Carson (5-10, 170, OL-DL), Dylan Komisarek (5-9, 145, WR-DB) and Peyton Pawlaczyk (6-0, 180, RB-LB) will have an opportunity to make a difference.
