Coach: Pat Gehrisch, third season
Last season: 3-7, 2-6 Blanchard Valley Conference
Returning starters: Offense 7, defense 7
Returning letter winners: 12
Top players: Seniors Hayden Ramsey, 6-2, 235, OL/LB; Jacob Thompson, 5-10, 185, OL/LB; Terrance Cheeks, 6-4, 185, WR/DB; Dylan Conine, 6-2, 180, TE/LB; Juniors Jacob Keefe 6-1, 245, OL/DL; Chad Baker, 6-4, 220, QB/DE; Tristan Love, 5-10, 150, WR/DB; Sophomore A.J. Lentz 5-10, 180, RB/DB.
Outlook: A year ago, the Redskins were held to a touchdown or less in six games.
This season, Gehrisch said the offense is "light years ahead of where we were at this point last year."
"The offense looks very proficient, which is exciting," Gehrisch said.
Depth will be an issue. With only six seniors — the bulk of their team is in the sophomore and junior classes — the Redskins may be a year away from making a major move. Yet Arcadia is hardly looking past this season.
One reason for optimism: the pitch-and-catch tandem of junior quarterback Chad Baker and senior receiver Dylan Conine, who Gehrisch described as a magnet with "as good of set of hands as I've seen in a long, long time.
"We talk about changing the culture," Gehrisch said. "I'm kind of beating that horse form the start. There's no reason we can't compete and raise the bar, raise the level at expectation at school. We definitely have the athletes.
"I really like this team, especially if we can stay healthy. I've smiled a lot about this team since last year was over. The work ethic, their attitude, has been tremendous. It's a fun group to be around. When attitude is right, it's a wonderful thing."
