Rossford to rename baseball diamond

The baseball diamond at Myron Brick Long Field will be named after former varsity baseball coach Jerry Baumgartner at an April 19 ceremony. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. before the first game of a Rossford versus Swanton double header at the Glenwood Athletic Complex. Former players are invited to attend and participate. Hats and jerseys will be for sale.

Mr. Baumgartner was head baseball coach from 1969 to 1993. His teams won nine Northern Lakes League titles, 12 sectional championships, and four district championships, with a career record of 353 wins, 246 losses, and three ties.

A math teacher, he also coached football, basketball, and bowling. He retired in 1995, but still ran the youth baseball clinic at the Rossford Recreation Department. He was inducted into the Rossford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

The rain date is 10:30 a.m. May 10.
