Walleye win in overtime to snap 11-game winless streak

OT win snaps skid for Walleye

CINCINNATI — The Walleye ended a month of frustration on Friday night, snapping an 11-game winless streak with a 4-3 overtime win at Cincinnati.

Defenseman C.J. Chartrain scored with 1:08 remaining in overtime to give the Walleye (17-34-4) the victory.

Maxim Shalunov’s second-period power-play goal with 6:32 remaining knotted the game at 3, and Hannu Toivonen stopped 40 shots to help Toledo as they were outshot 43-23.

David Gilbert and Brett Perlini also scored against the Cyclones (32-20-5).

Goaltender Joe Howe took the loss for Cincinnati, making 19 saves.

The win was the first for Toledo since a 4-3 win at Cincinnati on Feb. 7. It was a late-win that night as well as Kyle Rogers scored with 1:50 left in the third.

The Walleye went 1 for 2 on the power play Friday while allowing Cincinnati to score twice with the man-advantage.

Phil Bushbacher, Jonathan Hazen, and Byron Froese scored for the Cyclones.
