Craft sparks Liberty-Benton; Eastwood fizzles in 2nd half

ADA — Nathan Craft hit 9 of 13 field goals, scored 19 points, and led the Eagles (19-4) to a win in a Division III boys basketball district semifinal at Ohio Northern University.

Ryan Geise finished with 15 points and Adam Ctylak added 10 for Liberty-Benton, which will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Lima Central Catholic (20-4), which beat Carey 84-61.

Ryan Mikesell scored 14 points for St. Henry (17-8), which trailed 29-18 at halftime and shot only 26.5 percent (13 for 49) from the field.

Liberty-Benton shot 58.8 percent (20 for 34) from the field and 82.4 percent (14 for 17) on free throws.


Colonel Crawford 42, Eastwood 36

ASHLAND — Connor McCreary scored 14 points and Logan Sager added 10 as Colonel Crawford (19-5) won its D-III district semifinal.

Michael Flipse led Eastwood (18-7) with 11 points, Zach Jaboby had nine, and Jake Schmeltz — the Eagles’ leading scorer this season — finished with five.

Eastwood led 14-12 at halftime, but CC put together two third-quarter runs to steal momentum and the lead.
