MILLBURY - Lake built a 25-point lead in the third quarter but then had to hold off a late charge from Roosford Tuesday night in escaping with a 75-69 boys basketball victory in a showdown for first place in the Northern Buckeye Conference.
Flyers junior point guard Connor Bowen led Lake (18-1, 11-1 NBC) with 30 points and 11 assists, and added five rebounds and four steals.
Lake, Ohio's eighth-ranked Division II team, also got 14 points from Cody Witt, and 10 points apiece from Todd Walters and Jacob Rettig.
Rossford (12-5, 9-2) trailed 53-28 after a Jared Rettig 3-pointer for Lake with 6:18 left in the third quarter. But the Bulldogs battled back, pulling within 70-67 on a basket from Derek Mack with 1:31 remaining in the game.
The Flyers regrouped and iced the game by hitting five of eight free throws in the final minute.
Mack Miller tallied 17 of his team-high 20 points in the second half for the Bulldogs, who also got 16 points from Mack, and 13 points and 18 rebounds from sub Brian Burks.
Lake won both NBC meetings between the two teams.
